摘要：An incomplete skull of Simplaletes xianensis sp. nov. discovered here was recovered in the process of curating specimens recently.
　  The skull was collected by the Latian Team (1965) from the early Oligocene “hailuyuan Formation” of Hongqingbou Gully near Yinpo Village in Xian (Sian)，Shaansi Province.
　  Diagnosis Smaller in size; dental formula: 3-1-3-3; premolar series very short: ratio of the length of premolar series to that of molar series about 48%.
　  All these characters indicate that this animal is relatively advanced with the early Tertiary tapirs. It may be derived directly from Simplaletes ulanshirehenesis(Qi, 1980). The age of the animal is considered to be of Early Oligocene.
