摘要:Recently geologists doing field mapping in the Nanjing area brought to our attention the presence of mammalian fossils in a sequence of sediments 8km to the north of the town of Lai`an, Anhui. Local geologists divide the sediments into two parts, from the upper one of which, now called Zhangshanji Formation, the fossils were collected. All the fossils discovered so far belong to a new form of eurymylid mammal.
      OrderAnagalida
        Family Eurymylidae
       Rhombomylus laianensis sp. nov.
Type: Fragment of a maxilla with P3-M3.
Referred specimens: Fragments of a right and a left lower jaws with P4-M3 and M2-M3 respectively.
Diagnosis: An eurymylid with cheek teeth slightly larger and broader than that in Rhombomylus turpanemsis; hypocone shelf of upper molars remarkly developed; external border of upper  cheek teeth convex.
The age of this new species is most probably of an earlier stage of Eocene, i.e. early Eocene or slightly later, as that of Rhombomylus turpauensis recently described by Zhai.
